Melanyte is a complex structure. Not a simple composite like carbon fiber epoxy rods, or a metal like Aluminum. Stronger and less expensive than carbon fiber rods of similar strength. Lighter than Aluminum. Can be easily formed into complex shapes like wings and hulls.
Melanyte G uses glass not carbon fiber. Extremely strong in all directions including compression. With densities as low as 0.4g/ml it is positively buoyant, with the proprietary unstretchable skin over a continuously expanding core, it is like millions of tiny pumped up car tires carrying thousands of times it weight.
